Accidental Click = Unexpected Music

Ok, so I’m not a huge fan of the Dixie Chicks. On the wrong song, lead singer Natalie Maines voice can be grating, though either I’m getting used to it, or she’s getting better since the Chicks first couple singles. Their singles have been hit or miss for me, but they’re capable of putting out some great music.

For all the clunker singles like the absolutely terrible Goodbye Earl, and the grating I Can Love You Better, There’s Your Trouble, Ready to Run, and Sin Wagon – there are the hidden gems like Cold Day in July, Heartbreak Town, Cowboy Take Me Away, Travelin’ Soldier, and Top of the World.

And now they’re releasing a new album. The lyrics of the first single, Not Ready To Make Nice, were already put up on their website and I blogged about it before. However, the other day, I accidentally clicked on that site in my browser history and before I realized I clicked on the wrong line, (thank you high speed), the site loaded and the single automatically started playing in the background. So I got to listen to it…

…and it’s a good song. I like the lyrics and the tune is just as good. If this is the result of a classic rock, Southern California vibe added to their usual sound, this could be an album worth checking out. (Not to mention Rick Rubin is involved in the project – the producer behind the last couple Johnny Cash albums). I’ll have to wait till Amazon gets album clips up, but it’s a good sign and a good start. Click here to visit the site and hear the song.

Because I Can...(aka More X3 Wallpaper Madness)

Not that anybody cares, but because I can, I’m posting a new wallpaper I made from some of the host of new X3 pictures hitting the net. You can download the full-sized one here. This one turned out way better than my previous effort. I think I’m learning a bit more how to do these things. It is even perfect 1280 x 1024 resolution too. Took a bit of work to make this one, as I had to cutout or crop every picture (except the middle one) and get the fades just right. Three versions later, and enough layers that I lost count, the world now has yet another needless wallpaper to add to cyberspace. Feel free to download a copy if you want. I’ve got it on my desktop with the XP ‘silver’ theme and it looks pretty good, if I do say so myself.

Not sure what I’ll try for a wallpaper next. Maybe a Firefly / Serenity one, or maybe Sin City, or maybe I’ll come up with something totally different. Any suggestions?

Me Mini Movie Reviews...

Finally got to watch the movie Ong-Bak, and the one word review would be: Unbelievable! Sure, the flick has a paper thin plot, and you’ve got to question what they’re fighting and dying for, but the martial arts show put on by Tony Jaa is fantastic. Some brutal shots, and more than a few “Whoa!” moments. The jump through the roll of barb wire, the flying knee hit to the motorcycle rider that breaks the helmet, and the impressive double knee drop near the end are all unreal. And to think there was no wire work or CGI involved. It was a cool action packed movie, but one of my favorite moments has to be the first fight. You think they’re leading up to a big fight scene, and then Jaa drops the guy with one kick. Classic.

I also got around to watching the movie Layer Cake the other night. I might need a second viewing of it as I wasn’t paying close enough attention at the beginning, and I missed some of the dialogue thanks to the accents, but it turned into a pretty cool, noir-ish, crime caper flick. What surprised me though, was the good job done by Daniel Craig. When I heard they cast him as the next Bond, I was thinking “who?”. Now I see why. Anybody who doubts Craig as Bond, watch Layer Cake. This guy will do just fine. I still liked Brosnan as Bond, but if we have to see a new guy in the role, I think they made a decent pick.

Nuts to Honey...

Ok, since I'm obviously blogging to myself here, ;-) I just Googled it myself. Interesting info here about not feeding honey to children under one, infant botulism, and as a side note - women shouldn't eat peanuts during pregnancy. All stuff I didn't know before, all because of a note on the side of a honey container...inquiring minds and all that...

Open Question

So, I'm sitting here eating some spreadable Billy Bee honey, and I look at the side of the container and read: "Do Not Feed Honey to Children Under One Year of Age."

Ok, why? I'm guessing there has to be some scientific explanation, as I'm sure Billy Bee Honey wouldn't want to cut off that lucrative market. So, as I'm too tired to Google it, anybody got an answer to this one?

Here and There...

Hugh Jackman was kind of quiet on the movie front the last two years as everyone tried to forget about Van Helsing :) Now all of a sudden, he’s everywhere. First up, X3: Last Stand as Wolverine, then a magician in The Prestige, three different people in The Fountain (yeah, I don’t get it yet either), a newly optioned noir crime thriller as a getaway driver in Drive, a cameo in Superman Returns as a young Superman’s Father (Wolverine is Supe’s Father – now there’s your Identity Crisis, DC!), and in 2007 a Wolverine solo movie (do NOT screw this up Marvel)...

If you want a cheap laugh, just watch any US news network (not an all sports network, something like Headline News or CNN), and if you’re patient enough to wait for them to actually get around to showing NHL highlights in their brief sports coverage, you’ll usually be rewarded with some remarkable butchering of pronunciation of player’s names. Just goes to show how little they care about hockey, but it can be funny to listen to…

I was wondering how long it’d be before they’d be back. The Dixie Chicks are back in the news as they start promoting a new album coming out on May 23rd. called “Taking the Long Way.” (I like the album cover art) I haven’t heard the first single – “Not Ready To Make Nice” yet, but the lyrics are up on their website. Read that and take a wild guess what they’re singing about. I like the lyrics and the attitude behind it. I hope the song sounds good though. Don’t expect a strictly “country” album either, from the sounds of their inspirations listed in the press release. Looks like they’re going after a broader market after the country crowd turned on them in the aftermath of Natalie Maines comments. That whole thing was ridiculous – heard of free speech anyone?

Great quote from TV show Dead Like Me (another good one cancelled way too soon.)
“I don’t envy you kid. You live in a world of 12,000 menus and nothing to eat.”

Settle for a Slowdown

But your wheels just turn,
Down the road ahead
If it hurts at all, you ain’t shown it yet
You’re just a tiny dot,
On that horizon line
Come on, tap those brakes, baby, just one time
I know there’s nothin’ stoppin’ you now,
I’m not askin’ you to turn back around
But I’d settle for a slowdown…

- Settle For A Slowdown, by Dierks Bentley

Good song, great singer, fantastic lyric. (Man, I wish I’d have thought of that.) Sometimes you know you can’t change it, but you just want a sign that it all meant something…

Another Giveaway...

Apple - Trailers - Lucky Number Slevin

Here's a movie I thought looked interesting from previous teaser trailers. Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, Josh Harnett, Lucy Liu - in what looks like a noir-esque film. Then comes along this new trailer at Quicktime and of course they just have to give away what looks like a major plot point. They didn't do that in other previews I'd seen, but I guess they couldn't help themselves. So don't watch the trailer if you want to be surprised.

What is it with studios constantly giving away major plot points of their movies in the trailers? They did it with Ultraviolet, probably gave away too much with X3, and now again with Slevin and countless others before. The last time I was really surprised by a movie was when I watched the DVD of North by Northwest, where I figured it out seconds before the reveal. Every new movie seems predictable nowadays, but maybe that's because I've seen the trailers...

My Life Is Noir...

Very Cool. I took this blogthings quiz, and it turns out a movie of my life would be Film Noir...and that's probably pretty close. Not only that, I've seen all 3 films listed as best matches, and one of them is probably in my top 5 favorites...

The Movie Of Your Life Is Film Noir

So what if you're a little nihilistic at times?
Life with meaning is highly over-rated.

Your best movie matches: Sin City, L. A. Confidential, Blade Runner

Here and There...

First off, congrats to the Movie Blog! They won the 2006 Weblog Award for Best Podcast. If you love movies, or talking about movies, do check it out. Be advised, they can sometimes dip into R rated verbosity, but it is hilarious and informative at the same time. Plus, they put up podcasts a couple times a week. Great site and podcast…congrats guys.

I finally got around to watching the movie Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The scenes of Sky Captain flying the Curtiss P-40 fighter plane through the city were just cool. A lot of fun, good action, and I always like anything set in the 40’s / 50’s era, even if this was a futuristic sci-fi flick set in the past (“Oh dear, I think I’ve gone cross-eyed.”) Gwyneth Paltrow and Jude Law were great, and I absolutely loved the last line of the movie. Cracked me right up. Ranks up there with Mal’s “What was that?” line from Serenity. :)

I’m not a fan of Rascal Flatts (they’re basically country’s version of a boy band), and the songs they’ve put out that I like I could count on one hand with a couple left over fingers. However, their new song What Hurts The Most, is actually kind of good. Heard it on the radio a couple times, and it’s a good enough tune. The video however, sets new heights (or lows?) of over the top melodrama. On top of that, the whole thing grinds to a halt in the middle for a talking segment (in which the girl may as well have used Eric’s line from That 70’s Show – “I love cake.”), which kills any momentum the song has. Mini movie videos have their place, and are usually better than the abstract performance type of video. However, having a talking chunk at the front, middle, and end of the video for melodramatic “character development” is somewhat out of place. Not only that, video stations like CMT usually cut those parts out after the first viewing so that they can cram more videos in an hour, so you then lose the effect. A good director and video tells the story within the time frame of the song – hence the term, music video. You’d think that’d be Directing 101…

Funny quote from TV show:
(At breakfast table, girl to Grandpa, who’s reading the morning newspaper)
“So, Grandpa, what’s new in the world today?”
“As usual, it’s going to hell in a hand basket.”
“Well, it’s nice to have something you can count on.”
“It is at that.”

And this is just kind of odd…a wearable sleeping bag. I bet that would feel funny…

First Trip to Theatre Since October...

Well, went and saw the flick Ultraviolet today...and it was ok. You pretty much know what you're getting with a movie like this, so to expect more is expecting too much. I really liked the morphing comic book covers used to show the opening credits. I thought it was a fun, colorful, action movie with a good enough plot to keep you more or less interested. The action scenes were done well, though like I read somewhere else, Kill Bill did some similar action better. Milla Jovovich's Violet and the Lab guy Garth were the most interesting. There was obviously something there between the characters - shame they didn't explore it more.

It was a fun movie, although its nothing that's going to stick with you after. Knowing that it was originally meant to be R, and was downgraded to PG-13, I couldn't help thinking while I watched the movie that there was probably a much better movie lying somewhere on a cutting room floor...

Tales of the Stranger: Episode 5

Well, here's the next episode of this story arc. Yes, it's all headed somewhere...I think...Trust me :) Enjoy if you can, comments welcome.

Getting To Tomorrow by Eaglewing

He looked up. He looked around.

It was dull grayness everywhere. Like a smoker’s convention out of control, it was swirling around him, and he wasn’t even sure what he was standing on – let alone which way to go.

He called out. “Hello? Anybody there?” Nobody answered.

Is this it? Did I finally cross the river? He remembered the fading feeling, but not how he got here, and if this was the other side, it was a bit of a letdown. He was expecting something more. Then thinking back over the roads that had brought him here, he realized that maybe this was all there was for a life not fully lived. One gray nothingness exchanged for another. It was a sobering thought.

He closed his eyes and took a deep breath. The last image he had seen before the darkness took him came floating past his mind’s eye once again. Eyes that had held so much, and maybe even a hint of something more than he could have ever hoped for. Of course, being what he was, he had just kept moving, not taking the time back when he should have.

And now he was here, with no idea where it was, the why of it, or how to make it back. In one way, he realized it was really nothing new. So he opened his eyes and tried to think of what to do, but he was just too tired for any more of this.

Then he saw movement. Something tall and dark was moving towards him through the fog. Running wasn’t an option, as his next step could have been off a cliff for all he knew, so he stood his ground waiting for whatever bad news was to come. Why am I always waiting for something to come?

He shook his head to clear it, telling himself to focus, and watched as a man emerged from the swirling gray shadows. Tall and lean, the man walked with a purpose. Then the stranger saw the face, and felt the shock.

“Hey Stranger. Good to see ya, it’s been awhile.”

The Stranger managed to find his voice after seeing his old friend, long since gone. “Sonny?! What the hell is going on? Where am I and how are you –”

“Don’t worry about all that, man. I haven’t got a lot of time, so I’ll get right to it. I’m still dead, man, but you sure ain’t. Not yet, anyway. You know what that means?”

“I’m going crazy? Sonny, the last time I saw you, we were – ”

“Yeah man, those were good times. Wild times too. Remember that day you earned the name Stranger? Me and the boys would’ve been up here a whole lot sooner if it hadn’t been for you…but hey, I’m getting off track. No, friend, you’re not going crazy. Well, crazy in a padded wall sense, anyway. Nah, we always had each other’s backs, didn’t we? I saw you slipping a bit, swinging at windmills, and then you wound up here with a choice to make. Figured you could use a little help.”

The stranger’s eyes narrowed. “And what choice is that?”

“Well, you’ve been sliding downhill, throwing away pieces of your life for a while now. I’m not saying it was right or wrong, but it got you here. All of which means you’ve got another chance, if you want it. But it’s all up to you, and I don’t see the point of going back if you’re just going to waste it. But keep in mind that there are still some that need you, one in particular…and man, I never knew you to let anyone down.”

“I know Sonny, I know…but since she left…I just don’t know. I think I just screwed it up, let her down, and now…”

“So don’t let it happen again. Look, I’m running out of time here. You’ve got a choice to make, and I thought you could use a little backup. Still, the choice is yours – but don’t make the wrong one. You can go in any direction from here, but some ways are better than others, friend.”

Sonny started to move back into the grayness when he stopped. “Oh, and by the way Stranger, I got a message for you too. She told me to tell you it’s alright, she’s alright; she loved you but it was her choice to make. Now you gotta make yours.”

The Stranger reeled at that and stammered, “She said?! Where is – That’s all? Did she –”

“Gotta go now, buddy.” Sonny started to fade as he walked backwards into the fog. Winking at the stranger and throwing him one last smile, he said, "Vaya Con Dios, Amigo." Then he was gone.

The Stranger felt shaken by what had just happened. He was either losing his mind, or something else was at stake. What did Sonny mean by a choice? He started to take a step in the direction Sonny had been, but then stopped. It didn't feel right, and his gut instinct was never wrong.

The fog was everywhere; no way looked any better than another. Then, thinking carefully on Sonny's words, an old feeling started to rise within him.

He looked around. This place of gray nothingness was starting to get on his nerves. A choice? Then so be it. You're not dead yet. Fight your way out of here. Pick a direction and just go.

So he did. Gritting his teeth, feeling a new resolve, he turned to his left, put one foot down, and took a step into the unknown...

He woke up to lights, beeping noises, and pain. Nothing new about that last one, but the beeping and chattering around him was. He quickly realized he was in a hospital, and then it all came back to him – the bus, the punks, the shot. Damn memory eraser. I’m usually better than that. Blinking his eyes clear, he looked around. There was a doctor and nurse there, doing what they do. The doc gave him the good news – he’d be fine, just lost some blood and passed out. The bullet had exited clean, not hitting anything major, and they would clear him to leave after bandaging his arm. You lucky old fool, he chastised himself. He felt his strength and wits start to come back to him as whatever the medical professionals had done for him began to do the trick.

He remembered the other folks on the bus, and asked about their status. All were fine, and the punks had been arrested. The nurse then informed him that there were police waiting to speak with him as well. She told him that he’d had no ID on him, so she had to go get some forms to fill out and just to rest until she came back.

As soon as he was alone, he forced himself up and got dressed. It wasn’t like it was the first time he’d been shot, and the lingering weakness could be overcome. Besides, thanks to what he was sincerely hoping had been just a dream, his newfound willpower fed his resolve to get going. Hurrying, he quietly exited the emergency room and headed down a back hallway. It took him no small bit of effort, but he found his way out of the building and down the street.

The sun was burning gold and red across the clouds in the sky as it slowly set about to hand off the business of the day to the quietness of the night. The stranger walked to a park nearby, and eased himself down onto a bench there. He leaned back and stared at the sky, and let his thoughts drift.

He thought of Sonny, how he missed his old friend, and the timely dream, if that’s what it had been; and he really didn’t want to think about the alternative. He thought of what had pushed him onto the road in the first place, and the places and people he’d seen since being on it. What Sonny had said about “wasting it” kept running non-stop through his head. He felt he had been disappearing, bleeding away, piece by piece for a long time now, but there had been a few things happening to him as of late that had tempered the bleed. Maybe he had just been alone with his own mind for too long. Maybe he needed a human touch. Maybe he was just crazy. But either way, he wasn’t going down without a fight.

Pushing himself up to his feet, he started towards a close by pay phone and dug a crumpled piece of paper from his pocket. On it, he had scribbled down a number and he was thinking of calling it now. There was a pastor he had met in a small town that seemed to be made of the right stuff, and maybe a little conversation with someone who wasn't running would help ease his mind. Plus, he could ask a question he'd been wondering about at the same time. Quarters dropped and he dialed the number, still not sure what he was going to say. Then someone answered on the other end, and it took him by surprise.

"Hello?" A female voice. Not the pastor.

Her voice. Images of a lone candle, a cold night, a warm house, and something warmer with a beautiful face and troubled eyes burned across his mind's eye like wildfire.

His heart stopped for a second. Then, like always, it kept going.

"Um, hello?” The woman’s voice repeated the greeting, this time a little unsure. “This is...uh, this is the church actually...hello?"

He heard her again and he figured he really should say something.

"Hi, Robyn. It's good to hear your voice..."

The End.

To Be Continued in Episode 6 – Coming Soon!

Hockey Trader

One of the most fun (for the fans) day on the hockey calendar – the NHL trade deadline day – came and went today. My fave team, the Edmonton Oilers, went out and got goalie Dwayne Roloson and then went out and got goal scorer Sergei Samsonov. Couldn’t believe that second trade. Way to go Kevin Lowe.

What the heck are the Boston Bruins doing? First they trade Joe Thornton for less than market value (he’s what – second in league scoring now in San Jose?), and now they trade Samsonov? I’m glad Edmonton got him, but if you’re a ticket buyer in Boston, who are you going to pay to see – Thornton feeding Samsonov the puck, or Marty Reasoner passing to Marco Sturm? Yeah, that’s what I thought…

Kudos to the GM in Vancouver – he went out and got several decent defenseman and a backup goalie and barely gave up anything. Nicely done.

And the other big deal from the day before, Jose Theodore for David Aebischer. I’m surprised at that deal. If Theodore ever bounces back, and maybe some new scenery will do that, this will look like a steal for Colorado. If he tanks or plays like he has lately, it’s going to hurt them. Should be fun to watch.

And finally, the Maple Laughs really didn’t do anything. They traded Ken Klee for a prospect, then traded a draft pick for Luke Richardson. Luke Richardson?! He’s still playing? So basically it’s Klee for Richardson, and that’s not an improvement. This team isn’t going to make the playoffs as is, and they didn’t do anything to help themselves. I’m still waiting to see John Ferguson Jr. do something – anything – worthwhile as a GM in Toronto.

So, now that that’s over, it’s the march to the playoffs. Should be a good run…

Sing Me Back Home

Driving home from work at 3 in the morning, I flipped around the music stations I have programmed on my truck radio and came across the old classic "Coat of Many Colours" by Dolly Parton. I was surprised to find this on the radio, but hearing it brought back memories...open spaces...summer...the farm...lunchtime...open screen door...Mom in the kitchen singing along to Dolly...tomato and avacodo sandwiches...funny, who knew then that ten years old in the country would be the best I'd ever do...

Oddly enough, considering I haven't listened to the CD in awhile, the Billy Ray Cyrus rendition of the great Haggard tune "Sing Me Back Home" has been going around my head for some unknown reason the last couple nights too...wonder what's up with that...

Well, the warden led a prisoner
Down the hallway to his doom
And I stood up to say goodbye like all the rest
And I heard him tell the warden
Just before he reached my cell
Let my guitar friend play my last request

He said sing me back home
With a song I used to hear
Make my old memories come alive
Take me away, and turn back the years
Sing me back home before I die

I recall last Sunday morning
A choir from off the street
Came in to sing a few old gospel songs
And I heard him tell the singers
There's a song my Mama sang
Could I hear it once before you move along

Incomprehensibility

Motion Denied Because You're An Idiot - March 6, 2006

Classic. A Billy Madison quote in an official court document. And we wonder why courts are so backlogged when they have to put up with nonsense like this...

New X3 Trailer Online! And It's Great!!!

So, I set my computer to record 24 from 9-10 tonight – not for the show, but for the commercials. Thanks to the greatest thing since sliced bread, otherwise known as the internet, I knew the new X3 trailer would be debuting at 9.36pm tonight! I worked my shift, then rushed home and loaded the MPG file…slide bar forward…forward…where is it, where is it…there! Ok, ok, here we go, silence everyone…
…and finished…Wow!!!! The trailer is fantastic! Is it May 26 yet? It isn’t? Noooooooooo!!! I can’t wait that long! So I downloaded the better quality Quicktime trailer and watched it a few times...

Everything I had read about X3 had been not good up until the teaser trailer hit the net last November. With that teaser, I had hope this may not suck. It looked like they would get the look and action right, but what about the story? Then I read a quote from one of the producers that indicated they were going back to the first movie to tie it all together for the big send off of this third one. That gave me hope that maybe the writers were paying attention to the continuity of the movies and wouldn’t totally deviate from what had come before. The jury is still out on the plot, but this new full trailer has really got me excited to see this thing and how they’re going to play it all out. I know it may not make any sense based on comic cannon, but this flick is going to kick ass! I can’t wait to see it.

Thanks to screen caps from here, I put together a X3 montage of pics from the trailer…I may be a little biased on the pics I picked :-) You can get the wallpaper here. I put it together in a hurry while I was tired, so maybe I’ll try for something better later. If you’ve seen the trailer, there’s nothing here that’s spoilerish. If you haven’t, there may be one pic that is kinda, but only if you are aware of some of the script rumors :)

Weekend Box Office

Yahoo! Movies: Movie News -

Didn't see this coming. Bruce Willis' new movie 16 Blocks didn't even make the #1 spot. A holdover from the previous weekend - Madea's Family Reunion - had a 57% drop from its opening weekend and still stayed at #1 with $13 Million. 16 Blocks came in second with $11.6 Million. The flick I want to see (if I make it out to the cheapie theatre), Ultraviolet, came in at fourth with just $9 Million. Hmm, I wonder if the studio execs are second guessing their genius move of bumping this one around the calendar?

Overall, it would see a rather dismal weekend for the Box Office. The article said it's down 23% from last year, but I would have thought a new Willis movie would open better than that. Maybe this is the year the theatre dies. Of course, their lame attempts at bashing DVD and telling people to go to the movies on the Oscars last night probably didn't help...

Random Stuff...

Ontario college teachers are preparing to strike. Their reported demands would cost over 100 million dollars. The students, of course, are caught in the middle. I feel for them, especially considering the horrible timing of this possible work stoppage. I heard on the news that there have been strikes like this before, but they happened in the fall and students could catch up. This time, students are in limbo as to being able to finish their courses and being able to find employment. One student had been offered a full time job, but now doesn’t know what she’ll do if the strike happens. Normally, I’d side with a union in a stand for better working conditions, but this time it’s a hard sell. The reason is that these students have already paid for their courses and as such, should have an expectation of completion. There is an entire group of young people who are going to have their lives put on hold, money tied up, and employment put in jeopardy as two other groups fight it out. I’m glad I’m not a student right now…

The Oscars are on tonight, and the only interest I have in it is to see what Jon Stewart does. Then I heard there will be a 5 second delay. What’s the point of watching if they’re going to edit out the good stuff? Plus, it’s the Oscars – otherwise known as stuffy boredom – so how much leeway will they really let someone like Stewart have? If he had the freedom of speech he has on the Daily Show, then it would really be worth watching. On a different point, as usual, I haven’t seen any of the films up for consideration; and the only one I want to see is Walk the Line. When is there going to be an awards show for movies people actually go to see?

This is a great time to be a sports fan. The NHL is winding up the regular season as teams try to make the playoffs, and this Thursday is my favorite day of the NHL calendar – trade deadline day. I happen to be off work too, so I can keep the radio and TV on to catch all the rumors and happenings. Then there’s baseball spring training too – just wish I could get more spring training games on TV. There’s the online MLB.TV option, but do I really want to watch ball games at 350K streaming, one game available at a time, at a cost of 14.95US a month? I think not.

Unbelievable

I couldn’t believe it when I read this. Apparently, there is a game actually growing in popularity among teenagers that involves choking to then get a rush from the return of blood flow. Police are issuing warnings about it as well. Reportedly there were more than 50 deaths last year and eight this year because of this “game.”

What is wrong with people? Where are the parents, or supervision, or guidance to prevent kids from even contemplating something this STUPID! If any kids happen to read this blog, please don’t do this! Risking brain damage and death for a brief “rush” is not worth it. Use the brains God gave you and some common sense and avoid such moronic behavior, regardless of what other kids try to get you to do. Be your own person, make your own choices, and use your head to think about the consequences...

Whedon Talks Serenity

Empire: Joss Whedon Interview

A good Whedon interview here (includes spoilers!). Mostly talks about the Serenity movie - includes a funny Jewel/Kaylee anecdote and Whedon's thoughts on that third act shocker.

He also mentions the work he's doing on Wonder Woman and the fact there may be a possibility of a Spike movie from the Buffyverse if they find a way to do it financially. I wonder if it would be in continuity following Angel, or some prequel of sorts. If they did a movie after that time point, would they reference the other characters and what happened? Even though Angel should have continued another year or two (stupid networks), considering the tight time frame he was forced to work with, I really liked the way Angel ended...

"Well, personally, I kinda want to slay the dragon. Let's go to work."

Official X3 Synopsis

X-Men Hype! - The latest X-Men news and rumors

Fox has released an official synopsis of the upcoming movie. This is more or less already known, but here's how it reads:

"In X-MEN: THE LAST STAND, the final chapter in the "X-Men" motion picture trilogy, a "cure" for mutancy threatens to alter the course of history. For the first time, mutants have a choice: retain their uniqueness, though it isolates and alienates them, or give up their powers and become human. The opposing viewpoints of mutant leaders Charles Xavier, who preaches tolerance, and Magneto, who believes in the survival of the fittest, are put to the ultimate test - triggering the war to end all wars."

There were some who thought there wasn't enough action in the previous 2 movies (I thought it was a good balance, though overall I liked the first one better than the second one - but they were both good). However, if they're claiming a war to end all wars, it would seem the action factor has been ramped up. Still would like to see them let Wolverine really cut loose, though :)

I Went To The Commercials, and a Film Broke Out

:: rogerebert.com :: Answer Man

Great article here from Roger Ebert's Answer Man Q & A. Letters from people all stating the obvious problems with going to the theatre and Roger's responses. They even cite some quotes from theatre execs that clearly show how out of touch they are. You hear stuff like -- "Earlier this year, I wrote a letter to AMC complaining about all the commercials. They responded by saying that their research shows 'audiences actually enjoy the ads very much.'" -- and you lose any sympathy whatsoever for dropping box office totals and piracy issues. If that's their attitude, they deserve what they get.

Oh and here's another quote from Roger that I thought was hilarious -- "Speaking of movies that go over the top, "Running Scared" goes so far over the top, it circumnavigates the top and doubles back on itself; it's the Mobius Strip of over-the-topness. I am in awe. It throws in everything but the kitchen sink. Then it throws in the kitchen sink, too, and the combo washer-dryer in the laundry room, while the hero and his wife are having sex on top of it."
