Glad that's over...

So, June wasn't exactly a good month. Usually isn't. As I'm sure you can tell from the staggering numerical amount of blog postings during the month of soaring temperatures and diving morale. Whatever...

Cleaning up some loose ends, looking around inside to see if I can find what matters, and as a by-product, hopefully start writing again. I've got the story arc of The Stranger still percolating, so here's hoping a few more eps will get posted...

Picked up the book Sin City: The Making of the Movie. Good book, if you liked the flick. Contains the movie script, tons of pictures, and interesting quotes and thoughts from the 3 directors and the actors. Weird, but everytime I get looking or reading something about Frank Miller's Sin City books / movie, it makes me want to write again. Stories of my own. Reading 'The Hard Goodbye' last fall blew me away and actually got me writing again after a long time. Also, watched an interview with the author of the Spenser PI stories which was interesting. He basically got into it after his wife convinced him to leave his university job and do something he wanted to do, noting how unhappy he was at where he was...and look how many books he wrote.

Anyway, here's hoping July is cooler, tho I'm not holding my breath (not that its really easy to breathe in this soup anyway :)...nothing like getting out of my truck, going into work, and instantly feeling like I need a shower...
Holding out for a good report on Monday from the Docs (as I look forward to them gathering around my arm cuff as they wait in eager anticipation to see if I've set a new blood pressure record [nod to Lewis Black])
If that goes well, who knows what'll happen in the next little while. I'll try to write more even if its crap, change some shit in my life, and if not....well, I'll just Blame the Vain...

Blame the Vain...

So, go ahead and blame anything that you want,
'Cause it all ends up the same,
When everything that you been claiming is wrong...

Oh, and don't you know that blame,
Is always never enough
It just keeps you in the game
'Til you've only got yourself left to bluff

I'll blame the vain
For what we wear,
And I'll blame the blind
When we can't see

I'll blame it all
On someone else
'Til there's nobody left
Then I'll just blame me...
Blame the Vain, by Dwight Yoakam

By the way, if you like good music, go get the album Blame the Vain by Dwight Yoakam. I've been wearing out the bandwidth listening to the streaming audio of the album on CMT.com, only because I haven't been able to get to the store. That'll change this weekend. It's some of the best music by Dwight since his 'If There Was A Way' and 'Gone' albums. You can tell he's been inspired by the music again.
Oh, and his appearance on the Daily Show with Jon Stewart was hilarious...a classic.

Fraser!

Some info here that may be interesting or useful or completely boring depending on your point of view…

Upcoming releases include:
The Spenser movie collection on June 28. This includes the 4 TV movies starring Robert Urich as the classic PI Spenser. The movies were great – Urich really played the role well as did Avery Brooks as his friend Hawk. Two of my favorite lines:

[Secretary to Spenser as he heads down the hall to barge in on her boss: “I’m calling your superiors!”
Spenser: “I have no superiors. I may not even have an equal.” (the delivery of the line was great)]

[Hawk after a fight: “Because I am Elusive!”]

Remington Steele on July 26 – be careful which one you pick up. Apparently, they’re releasing a couple of versions. A volume 1 and a volume 2 and a complete set of both volumes. Don’t ask me why…

McCloud, seasons 1 & 2 on August 9. Alright! I loved this show. It’ll be nice to see some of these old episodes…

Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy on September 13. Cool movie, absolutely hilarious. Marvin, the paranoid android was killer…”Do you call this job satisfaction, ‘cause I sure don’t.”

…and don’t forget, the movie of the year – Sin City on August 16. Unfortunately, this will be a barebones edition, with the much anticipated special edition coming later. I hate that, but the movie was so good and true to the books that I’ll have to pick this one up. I’ll jetison it to the used DVD place once I hear when the good one is coming out…

Oh, and for this blog’s regular reader, here’s the key news. Due South, the final season 4, will be released September 27. This will mean that all the episodes from this great show will actually be available on DVD. Very cool…

Life Is Like A....

…trip through the Wendy’s drive-thru. You never know what you’re going to get. (Apologies to Forest Gump.) Why is it so hard for them to get it right? This isn’t rocket science people. I’m tellin’ ya, Leo Getz was right. Last week they screwed up which salad I ordered (I ordered the chicken strips salad, got the BLT), and this week they gave me a Sprite with no ice (“You wanted no ice, right?”…..Um, no – how did you come up with that? Nowhere did I say anything about ice!) and today it took 4 tries before she understood I wanted a combo with a Sprite plus an additional large Coke. (I was picking it up for someone else). Then I finally get the order straight, pay for it, get to the pickup window and they tell me they’re out of Sprite. What the #$%!? Out of Sprite?! This is what you do…all that you do…sell food and drinks. How poorly managed can your operation be to run out of something you sell lots of everyday by the middle of the day? It wasn’t like it was 3 in the morning. And why didn’t you say something when I was ordering? Anyway, since I can’t drink anything with caffeine, I was basically shit out of luck. So I canned the drink, got my food, and got the hell out of there. Stupid, Stupid Rat Creatures…(oh, just google it.)
