ESPN Outdoors -- Bear crashes hockey game, mom saves kids First heard of this on The Colbert Report (funny show, and great follow up to the Daily Show). This woman was walking her kids past a street hockey game when the kids started shouting and she saw a polar bear sizing up her kid. She told the kids to run, and proceeded to fight the bear. Another man saw this, ran to his brother's home, and grabbed a rifle. He fired some warning shots to distract the bear, then put 4 shots into it to and killed it. The woman was swatted by the bear a couple times, but remarkably lived through it. It's amazing what one can do when the need arises. Just be sure when fighting a bear, to kick in a bicycle-pedaling motion :)
